Hey, fashion lovers! Today, I’m going to be talking about the Atomic Festival in Northamptonshire. It’s one that I take the time to go to every year, and it’s amazing.
For this blog, I’m going to focus on the fashion side of the event, because that’s what I do, but there is so much more to the festival than just fashion. There’s music and dancing that lasts until the early hours of the morning, there’s on site camping (and I stay there ever year. Absolutely incredible, if only to see the vintage caravans), food & drink, roller skating, golf, classic cars, fun fair, jive dancing classes, etc.
Yes, it is an absolutely fantastic festival and I don’t know anyone who can’t find something fun to do while they’re there, but today, I’m just going to stick to the fashion side of things. Boy, do they offer a lot for vintage fashion enthusiasts like me!
There are so many different aspects to the festival by way of fashion, so I’m going to look at each key area in turn and talk you through the type of things you can expect to find/do.
The Vintage Market This is huge. It’s one of the biggest vintage markets that I've ever visited, and for me, it’s worth the festival ticket price on its own. You'll find a massive assortment of clothes spanning from the ‘30s to the ‘70s. You’ll find both authentic and replica clothes – some of the vintage style dresses are mind-blowing. They combine modern techniques with older styles to create some of the most stunning designs that I’ve ever seen.
And wow. If you’ve ever had trouble finding vintage accessories and shoes then look no further than the Atomic Festival market. I’m unusual in that I wear size 9 shoes, and that’s quite large for a lady, particularly one from 40-50 years ago, but even I managed to find something in their collection.
As well as clothes, they sell other vintage items too – the music collectors amongst you will love it.
The Flea Market If you’re looking for a bargain, or you're looking to sell your own stuff, then the flea market is fantastic. It’s only on for one morning, so you have to be quick if you want to find those bargains or special buyers.
You won’t find any vintage style dresses at the flea market, because everything has to be authentic. Be careful if you're selling clothes, because they don’t take kindly to people that accidentally sell replica pieces! That’s not because they’re mean, but because the authenticity of the times is upheld above all else. This is a real flea market from a bygone era. Super fun.
The Look Of course, the vintage look isn’t only about the clothes; it’s also about the overall look. You’ll find a range of people that can help you achieve whatever vintage look you want. There are barbers, beauty parlours, manicurists, and tattooists (yes, a real tattooist!), all focused on creating the vintage look.
I hope you can now appreciate just how awesome this festival is and I hope to see you there!
